With 13 minutes to get to class from my house on the other side of campus and the recent memory of me snoozing my alarm five times this morning – effectively eliminating my chance to save money and brew a cup at home, an iced coffee is exactly what I didn’t have time to stop for. Nevertheless, I was three minutes late to class this morning.
Today was a triple pump vanilla iced coffee. The splash of soy was added in myself at the condiment bar, because as a college student, every cent counts, and 60 cents extra for less than an inch of milk is a scam. The lifesaving coffee was called out to me with a clear bottom fourth of sugar in the form of vanilla syrup and a cascade of beautifully brewed caffeine floating on top. She was delicious.
This is my second cup from the new Starbucks by Macquarie Hall on campus. Peet’s will be very missed, but the loss that hit even harder was the lack of environmentally sustainable lids that they rolled out last semester to combat the harmful impacts of single-use plastic straws. I think I want those back just as much as I want the dining dollars that allowed me to sustain my coffee addiction without breaking my bank account.
